PUBLIC INVITED TO SEE PROPOSED PLANS FOR SOUTH CROFTY. August 2008

Owners of the mine in Pool, Western United Mines (WUM), have organised two public consultation evenings to ensure all those interested have full access to the information before applications are submitted to the mineral planning authority (Cornwall County Council).

The first will be held at Camborne Community Centre on Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 between 5pm and 7pm. The second will be held at Carn Brea Leisure Centre on Wednesday, September 3rd, between 5pm and 7pm. Senior managers from the mine will be on hand on both occasions to answer any questions.

The proposals to go on show will involve the next stages of development for the Mine and public comment is now invited.

Ideally, WUM would like to move the existing mill building and associated infrastructure from the site just off Dudnance Lane to an area adjacent to the Tuckingmill Decline. Doing that would then clear the current northern end of the mine site making way for exciting plans including housing and a mining heritage centre incorporating underground tours.

WUM Chief executive Alan Shoesmith, said this was a very exciting time for South Crofty and the whole of Cornwall.

He said: "We are working to start full tin extraction within two years but need additional planning consents in order to bring the Mine up to the modern standards we propose.

"The benefits of a 21st century mining operation will optimise the future of South Crofty which looks very bright for several generations to come".
